How to Choose Lottery Numbers, and Strategy These are the dos and don'ts when you purchase Florida lottery tickets, Powerball tickets or Mega Millions tickets online or offline. These steps will allow you to select the right numbers and increase your chances of winning the big cash. We would love to hear your suggestions and tips for picking lotto numbers.

Don't choose combinations that have been drawn before Our study shows that repeated combinations are unlikely to be drawn again. It takes over 3,000 years for a set of six identical numbers to be drawn again.

Don't choose extreme numbers 01-02-03-04-05-06 is an example of extreme numbers. This combination is unlikely. Our study shows that six extreme numbers have never been drawn in Florida Lotto history.

Nullify mathematical arithmetic progressions Using arithmetic progressions can be used to add 10 numbers (e.g. 02-12-22-32-42-52) or multiply some number (e.g. multiplying numbers by 3).

You shouldn't choose all the numbers in one group. For example, Florida lotto 6/53 divides numbers into multiple groups such as 1-9 and 10-19. Do not choose all numbers from the same group.

Don't choose odd numbers or even numbers. Based on the history of Florida lottery winning numbers all 6 odd numbers and 6 even numbers are rare.

Choose high-low patterns or vice versa

  • The majority of winning numbers are spread over the entire number field. This number field is usually divided in half. The low half is 1 through 26, and the high half is 27 to 53. Rarely are all high numbers drawn. For example, 2/4, 3/3 or 4/2 is the best pattern. In 2/4, we choose 2 low numbers and 4 higher numbers. These patterns are more common than 80%.

Choose numbers from different groups

  • Most of the winning numbers have spread to different groups from previous winners. Sometimes, however, one or more number groups are missing. For example, 2013-06-15's winning numbers 03-16-19-20 32-52 had no number below 40. You can determine which number group you should omit or pay extra attention by studying past winning numbers.

Even the oddest pattern can be chosen

  • All odd and all even numbers are rare, occurring less that 1% of the times, as we've stated. The best combination is 2/4, 4/2 or 3/3. This means that 3 even numbers and 3 odd should be chosen in the case 3/3. These three patterns are found in 82% of all drawings.

Choose numbers that are adjacent to winning numbers in the past If number 15 was hit in the previous drawing, then its adjacent numbers (14 and 16), are likely to be drawn. Because 80% of drawings have already been completed, it is possible to choose adjacent numbers. An example of this is the 2013-05-29 drawing, where the winning number was 04-36-42-47-47-852-52. The next drawing (2013-06-01) is 05-15-29-34-5-40-47. We can see 04/05, 36/35, and 48/47.

Add up all previous winning numbers Our study shows that the summation between the most winning numbers lies between 110 and 209. For Florida Lotto, 89% of the sums from 100 draws (2012-02-01 to 2013-01-12) are in the 110 to 210 range. Only 5% is less than 110 and 6% more than 210. The combination 03-05-11-19-25-35 is unlikely to win. Because almost 70% of combinations fall within this range, 140 to 200 is a good combination.

Repetition some winning numbers Our study shows that some of the winning numbers appear again and again. We find that 01, 33 and 40, 46, 47, and 47 have appeared repeatedly from 2013-05-18 through 2013-07-06.
